The ghosts of the subconscious : the plastic automatism of Louis Cattiaux.
During the trans-hylist period, Louis Cattiaux, as an artist of his time, created a series of about thirty automatic drawings, comparable to those of André Masson. In these forms emerging from the subconscious, he discerns occult entities and titles these images that arise from plastic automatism as «ghosts». These beings, coming from the occult places of the human being, recognizable astral entities, would have a connection with the spirits invoked in the plastic technique practiced by the great painters of the Renaissance, of whom Francis Yates wrote: «The true magicians of the Renaissance are artists like Donatello and Michelangelo who, through their sublime art, were able to imbue their statues with divine life».
